Jump on in to swim, splash, and play: Thunder Bay is where you’ll want to stay! Our outdoor pool offers an all-around four-foot, six-inch deep water play area, with plenty of poolside seating for soaking up the sun.

Please Note: Thunder Bay is part of the outdoor water park. It opens seasonally, weather permitting.

Safety Requirements

Safety Requirements
  • Guests less than 48 inches tall, weak swimmers and non-swimmers should wear a life jacket and remain in the shallow end of the pool.
  • Children should have a supervising companion present at all times.
    • The supervising companion must be 14 years of age or older and meet all posted attraction requirements.
    • "Supervising companion" is understood to mean a person who is responsible for assuring that the child will comply with all applicable rules and regulations for the attraction.
  • Enter and exit at designated areas only.
  • Running, jumping, diving, splashing and rough play such as horseplay is not permitted.
  • Do not shoot basketballs from outside the pool or designated area.
  • Please do not “slam dunk” the ball or hang on the nets or rims.
  • Protective swim diapers are required for any young children, toddlers, or diaper-dependent guests.
  • Smoking is prohibited.
  • Carry-in food and coolers are prohibited in the outdoor spray area.
  • Be sure to protect your skin with sunscreen, even when it is cloudy, and reapply frequently. (Sunscreen is available for purchase in the gift shop.)

Failure to abide by these rules may result in injury to yourself and others and could result in removal from the water park.

For water park hours during your stay, please view our Indoor Water Park page. You can access the water park any time after opening on your arrival day and until closing time on your departure day.

How much is a water park day pass at the Great Wolf Lodge in Traverse city?

You can enjoy our entire indoor water park at Great Wolf Lodge in Traverse City, MI with a Day Pass. Please see our Day Pass Page for pricing on both Half Day and Full Day Passes. Passes are free for children ages 2 and under.

What is included in a stay at Great Wolf Lodge?

Great Wolf Lodge guests have unlimited access to our 84-degree indoor water park, filled with slides, pools, and more. Guests are also invited to enjoy free daily events and activities, including dance parties, arts and crafts, and story time. Our Adventure Park is also full of attractions available at an additional cost. Parking is not included in the room rate.

Are life jackets provided?

Coast Guard approved life jackets are available on a first come, first serve basis. We strongly recommend that children under 48 inches and weak or non-swimmers wear a life jacket. Please note that inflatable toys are not allowed in the water park.

Are towels provided in the water park?

Towels are provided for your family in the water park as well as bathing towels in your suite. You may wish to bring a beach towel or cover up as we ask that the towels stay in the water park area. Towels in the water park are included but are subject to a fee if not returned.

Are lockers available in the water park?

We do have a locker room with small lockers available for your use. The lockers are rented on a daily basis for a nominal fee. Larger items, such as luggage, will need to be kept in your room or vehicle.
