Does GWL, particularly Sandusky location, cater to children with developmental disabilities (ie: autism). I am interested in taking my 7 yr old son, who enjoys swimming and water.
Hi, Vicci. The staff and lifeguards at the Sandusky, Great Wolf Lodge are very accommodating. Two years ago, we went with another family to Great Wolf Lodge and their son has autism. We planned our stay to enjoy certain amenities when they were less crowded and we also went midweek when it not as crowded. For example, we went to the waterpark in the morning for a couple of hours, when it is not quite as crowded, then went the Cub Club and Northern Lights Arcade during the early afternoon. From our experience the arcade tends to be the busiest in the evening so we went back to the waterpark in the evening when it was less crowded there. For dinner, we ordered room service to our room, which was very reasonably priced, and enjoyed some quiet time together. You don't want to miss the Great Clock Tower show and Story Time that follows, it is a wonderful way to end the day. When you check, let them know of your sons needs and they will be able to offer suggestions to make your stay enjoyable.
What other activities can my family do besides play in the waterpark?
Great Wolf Lodge offers all sorts of activities that aren't water-related. There's Cub Club for children that includes daily crafts; storytime at the Great Clock Tower; Northern Lights Arcade that has more than 100 video games with a ticket redemption center for prizes; The Iron House Fitness Center for those looking to get in a workout; Plenty of restaurants, gift shops, and a snack shop. All of these can be enjoyed by the entire family. Hope this helps, Karlyn B
If kids designed your family room, it would probably look something like this. The bright lights of our sprawling, family-friendly arcade is packed with a variety of games designed to bring out the inner child in everyone. Plus, we've included exciting games of skill for the older kids, as well as fun games of chance for the little ones, meaning everyone can redeem tickets for prizes.
