Is this a good resort for a 1 1/2 yr old? We are looking to stay just for the weekend. Will it be hard to keep track of him? Are there toddler pools or smaller activiies for him to enjoy?
Great question. This is a great resort for young children. There are many different areas for a little one to have some fun. Fort Mackenzie offers room for them to climb and explore. Gushin Geyser offers a very shallow pool and slide, with water "eruptions" every few minutes. Totem Tower has slides just for the little ones, so you won't have to worry about the "big kids" getting in the way. Right next to the wave pool is a great kids area with hoses, a small slide, and even stationary jet-skis that the kids can "ride". If you visiting in the summer, you can add Thunder Bay to the list of great activities. All this is just what is available in the water-park!! In the hotel, you have Cub Club, the Clock Tower Show, the Wolf Walk and much much more. I think you will run out of time before activities while you are at the GWL. I hope you enjoy your stay. Is GWL an appropriate place to bring a 4-year-old and 18-month-old?
Hi Lauren! Great question! Yes, I think GWL is a wonderful place to bring a 4-year-old and 18-month-old. There is a wide range of activities and slides for all ages. The waterpark consists of seperate areas/rooms with different play areas and slides. One awesome thing about GWL is that each seperate area has a kiddie pool to play in as well. So even though you have a little one, you don't get "left behind" in the kiddie area like at some other waterparks. When we first started visiting GWL, our kids were 5 and 2. They both had an absolute blast! Our oldest was all over the waterpark enjoying everything in site. Our youngest loved splashing in the kiddie pools and the wave pool. There are also activities outside of the water to enjoy. For example, each night we all go down to the Clock Tower in our pjs to listen to Story Time. Our kids always love the stories! There is so much to do at GWL that I think your 4-year-old and 18-month-old will have a spectacular time! Thanks! Heather
We're wondering if there is enough for our toddler (18 months old) to do. We're a little worried that it might be more geared toward big kids? Also, are the areas separated enough so that she won't get plowed down by them?
Great question. We wondered the same thing. Upon arrival we found there was a lot for the little ones to do. Right next to Fort Mackenzie is a small pool for younger children with a slide. There is ample area for adults to sit and play with the little ones in a separate play area. Just a short walk from there is another play area our kids loved. Gushin' Geyser is a children-only play area with bridges, small slides, and a zero-depth entry. They even have stationary jet skis that kids can ride and shoot water at you while you play together. Outside there is Raccoon Lagoon, another area to explore when the weather is nice. In all these areas you don't have to worry about bigger kids running them over or getting in the way. These areas are designated just for the little one. And these are just the water areas. Don't forget about some of the other activities that the Lodge has to offer such as Cub Club and Story Time. I think your little one will be shivering and ready for a nap long before you run out of things to do at the Great Wolf Lodge.
Fort Mackenzie™
We've turned splashing into an adventure at Fort Mackenzie, our 4-story interactive tree house in the center of our 84 degree indoor water park. Adventure through suspension bridges, swinging cargo nets, treetop slides and soaking spray stations. If that doesn't get you drenched, just wait for our 1,000-gallon bucket to tip from the treetops.
Slap Tail Pond™
With waves up to 3 feet tall, you'll think you're in the ocean. Grab an inner tube or let the surf take you to "shore". Waves come in 5-minute intervals. The gigantic wave pool also features zero-depth entry and goes up to 5 feet deep.
Frog Bog Log Walk™
This agility challenge keeps kids busy for hours, as they practice their balance and cheer on their friends. Little kids learn to jump from lily pad to lily pad, while the older ones use the netting above to guide themselves across. One false step and ... splash.
Hawk's Beak™
The littlest thrill-seekers can try all four of our kiddie water areas, including Hawk's Beak, Racoon Lagoon, and Gushin' Geyser. All three sections of our indoor waterpark have special features for the "48 inches and under" set.
Raccoon Lagoon™
The little ones squeal as the volcano "erupts" with a spray of water. They can safely toddle along the rubber no-slip surface, exploring the spray-and-play features, or wade into the zero-depth entry kiddie pool with a maximum depth of one foot.
North and South Hot Springs™
Find an oasis of relaxation in our jumbo whirlpools. Find one for adults 21 and older and another for the whole family.
Crooked Creek™
Buddy up or go solo. Just let the current sweep you along the endless, winding lazy river.
Thunder Bay™
Thunder Bay Outdoor Pool area has a 122,000 gallon outdoor pool, which ranges from zero-depth entry to four feet. Thunder Bay includes two outdoor waterslides (Thunder Run and Lightning Falls), water basketball, kiddie activities, water effects including floor geysers and spray features, as well as heated water. There is a patio area with tables and chairs so you can relax in the sun. Open Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend, weather permitting. Hours vary.
