I don't swim at all and my 6 year old is a weak swimmer but loves the water. Will he be able to participate in the activities like water slides and things? And will I be able to accompany him as required without drowning? :-)
Hi Victoria! You and your son will most definitely be able to participate in the activities in the waterpark! One of the best assets of GWL, in my opinion, is the attention to detail their lifeguards possess. There are lifeguards at every attraction moving around and watching swimmers. At the slides, there are life guards at the top to assist guests into the tubes and another at the bottom to hold the tubes still so you can get off safely. The only two attractions that you might want to show caution around are Slap Tail Pond (wave pool) and Big Foot Pass (activity pool). The waves in Slap Tail Pond can be kind of rough and knock smaller swimmers over, and Big Foot Pass is over 4 feet deep. I'd also be sure to utilize the Coast Guard approved life jackets that GWL provides for your son while he's in the water. Have a blast!!
Is there room at the toddler slides to accompany a 2 year old a couple times and hold his hand while he slides down until he's comfortable doing it alone? Are there enough other activities to occupy him if he's not ready for the slides yet?
Hi Owen! Cub Paw Pool is designed for the type of scenario you asked about. There are two wide slides with a mild slope that are perfect for hand holding. You can walk on one side of the slide and hold your child's hand on the way down. There is also one other slide that has a slight curve to it, but you wouldn't be able to hold his hand on the way down. He'd have to sit down and slide down on his own. You can, however, catch him at the bottom. If your son isn't quite ready for slides at all, there are other aspects of Cub Paw Pool that he'd enjoy. There are several jet skis that squirt water, a teeter totter, sprinklers, fountains, and even a miniature version of the bucket at Fort Mackenzie. If all else fails, he can just jump and splash around like he's at the beach...minus the sand, of course. We've turned splashing into an adventure at Fort Mackenzie, our 4-story interactive tree house in the center of our 84 degree indoor water park. With waves up to 3 feet tall, you'll think you're in the ocean. Grab an inner tube or let the surf take you to "shore". Waves come in 5-minute intervals. The gigantic wave pool also features zero-depth entry and goes up to 5 feet deep.
Mountain Edge Raceway™
Challenge your family to some friendly competition on our indoor competitive mat racer waterslides. Launch headfirst down the 4-story slide and prepare for some sharp turns before finishing along the straightaway.
Chinook Cove™ Activity Pool
Get into the hoopla with a little water basketball with the kids. Let them test their balance along a floating activity or just goof around (safely, of course!) in this activity pool.
Big Foot Pass™
This agility challenge keeps kids busy for hours, as they practice their balance and cheer on their friends. Little kids learn to jump from lily pad to lily pad, while the older ones use the netting above to guide themselves across. One false step and ... splash.
Totem Towers™
These twin three-story slides offer the fastest (not to mention, funfilled) escape route out of the Fort Mackenzie tree house.
Whooping Hollow™
For the "48 inches and under" set, we offer a kiddie slide that the little ones will want to try again and again and again.
Raccoon Lagoon™
Raccoon Lagoon Outdoor Pool area ranges from zero-depth entry to four feet and includes water basketball, kiddie activities, floor geysers and spray features, as well as heated water. There is a patio area with tables and chairs so you can relax in the sun. Typically open Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend, weather permitting. Hours vary.
